The Southwest Coastal Path
It’s time to take off the fancy shoes and reach for the hiking boots as our group of annual hikers are about to hit the trails for 2023. This will be our 11th year of long distance hiking together.
As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the South West Coastal Path (SWCP), we decided to take it on . . . But not all at once. The SWCP is in it’s entirety, 630 miles long (1013 kms) and we are planning to bite off only 140 miles of it this year; walking from Penzance to Plymouth.
According to our research, this section of the path runs the gamut between easy in places to very strenuous as coastline rises into high cliffs. Here the SWCP follows the southern border and coastline of the county of Devon in England. High cliffs, beautiful coves and quaint fishing villages. Can’t wait to tuck into some fabulous fish!
Our regular crew of 5 hikers, Cathy, Shelagh, Pete, Heather and Don will be augmented by a rookie import from Tucson, AZ, Carmen Hull. Welcome Carmen!!!
As we squeeze the last pair of extra socks into our bags and make final preparations, stay tuned for our first day on June 21st!
